How actor David Keith came to be a part of independent filmmaker Brooks Benjamin's
romantic comedy Boys of Summerville proves the old adage that it all starts with the
script.

When schoolteacher by day and independent filmmaker by night and weekends
Brooks Benjamin was asked permission by one of the actors of his sophomore effort,
Boys of Summerville, he didn’t think much of it. Sure, he told Wes Murphy, go ahead
and pass the script for the movie along to your acting teacher, David Keith.

But Knoxville, Tennessee native Keith wound up taking a shine to writer-director
Benjamin’s script, about a young man who returns to a small town to sell his
deceased father’s home and falls in love with a female tow truck driver, against the
backdrop of a community passionate for softball. So he asked the Kingston, TN born
filmmaker a simple question. “A couple of days after Wes gave him the script, I got
a call from David Keith,” Benjamin tells the Knoxville News Sentinel.

“He was like, 'Hey, I was wondering if you have a part for me.' I was like, 'Well, I
guess I do now.' " Keith plays the part of Joe, a wise bartender who teaches Peter a
thing or two about his departed dad. This coming Thursday, April 17th, Boys of
Summerville premieres for cast and crew at Knoxville’s Downtown West movie
theater. Benjamin’s first film was the2006 horror thriller Point of Fear.
